Can a single double-glazed unit be replaced without a new window?
Usually yes: the glazier measures the sealed unit and makes a new one of the same thickness. The frame stays, only the glass and sometimes the beads are changed.
Will the glazier come to measure and install?
Some do site visits, others only cut to your measurements in the workshop. Check the profile or ask, especially for shower screens and large mirrors.
What affects the price?
Glass type and thickness (float, tempered, laminated, double-glazed), size, edge finishing, drilled holes and installation. Tempered glass can’t be cut afterwards, so measurements must be exact.
How long does custom glass take?
Plain glass and mirrors are often cut quickly, sometimes the same day. Tempered glass and sealed units are usually ordered in, so they take longer.
My rental window is broken. What should I do first?
Tell the landlord, carefully remove loose shards with gloves and cover the gap with plastic or cardboard. Some glaziers can board it up temporarily until the new pane arrives.
